The Cultural Centre (also known as The Butterfly) creates a new architectural icon integrated into the heart of the Garden. Two public entrances, one on Union Terrace and the other on Belmont Plaza are dramatically formed as grassy slopes gently rise to create soaring, airy foyers that lead visitors to the central hall below. The Cultural Centre includes a sub-dividable set of Exhibition Galleries that are bathed with light from the clerestory windows above, a 500-seat flexible theatre suitable for music, dance and drama, a Learning Centre suitable for conferences and meetings, and a Café accessed directly from Belmont Plaza.
